In 8th grade creative writing class we had to write our life credo. At first most of us saw it as another pointless assignment. Somewhere along the way I decided to take it seriously. I have re-visited this list many times to modify and update it.
Here is my credo at 29 years old.
Love>DNA
Being upset about yesterday does not make tomorrow any better.
No matter how bad things feel, the sun always comes up in the morning.
Being loyal is just as important as being honest.
Not everyday will have sunshine, but joy can be found even in the rain.
Everyone is broken, it’s just some people are honest about it.
The best days are the ones you don’t plan.
Memories are more valuable than money.
People will only love you as much as you love yourself.
You can’t please everyone.
Regret nothing. Learn from it and move on.
Love does exist.
Live out LOUD.
You must forgive to be forgiven.
Laughter really is the best medicine.
Everything will truly be okay in the end.
Don’t hide your scars, because they are proof you can survive.
Seek solutions not problems.
Change is hard, but sometimes it is necessary.
Time doesn’t necessarily heal all wounds, but with time you learn to live with the pain.
The value of your life is measured in what you do for others.
Authenticity is more valuable than popularity.
Self care is important.
Anything worth having is worth fighting for.
Quality is greater than quantity.
It is okay to not be okay.
Do these three things every day: laugh, give a hug, tell someone you love them.
Do what is right, not what is popular.
Grits are better than oatmeal.
