Get to know koko- series! (lucky you…!) The first installment: 10 things you may not know about me. Enjoy 🙂
1. Dance
I was in dance when I was young. I know…kinda weird right? I am the epitome of a tomboy. I like being outside, getting dirty, and I can talk sports better than some males. However, there is photo evidence that I was in fact in dance class. I don’t remember much about it so I must not have hated it too much.Â
2. Red sauces
I don’t like red sauces. So…spaghetti sauce, ketchup, salsa, etc. I’m not really sure why, but I don’t typically eat any sauce that is red. I don’t think it has anything to do with the color. I just don’t like tomato based sauces. Which is really odd because I LOVE tomatoes.Â
3. Heart work
I had heart surgery as a toddler. Everything went really well and I went on to participate in sports and activities all throughout life to this point with no issues. I have a really cool scar that wraps around my side. I even used my scar as a “show and tell” item in kindergarten-you can imagine that went well.Â
4. Mechanical problems
I’ve torn both of my ACL’s. My left knee was torn when I was only 13 and my right was done with I was 15. Due to those injuries, and surgeries to fix them, I have a combination of bolts and screws in both knees. I was on a church trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan just a few months after surgery on my right knee. In fact, the week before our trip I was released from wearing the big bulky brace. While on said trip, I slipped on grass one morning walking down a small hill. A screw actually fell out of place when I fell, but thank goodness that what the graft the screw was holding to my bone had already grown so nothing else was damaged. A few days after returning home I had the screw surgically removed. I still have that screw in a jar.Â
5. Snakes
I’m fascinated by snakes. I don’t like them, but I think they are interesting. My dad had a huge old fish tank for a few years when we were growing up. One summer, several neighborhood kids joined my sister and I in catching garter snakes. Where did we keep them? In the fish tank of course! I don’t remember how many we caught, how we took care of them, or what happened to them. I do remember having a blast that summer.Â
6. Broken abroad
I am absolutely accident prone. For some reason, when I travel abroad I am at risk for at least one major injury/illness every time. In India, I sliced my leg the first morning we were there and it was deep enough that 11 years later the scars are still easily visible. In Sierra Leone, I had a spider bite and ended up having to get it drained back home. In Zambia, I shattered a toe and ended up having surgery on that too. In Germany, I backed into an open pipe and burned the back of my leg. I’m super fun to travel with!
7. Button of the belly
When I was really little, I self-soothed by rubbing my own belly button. I know, it’s weird. I did it so often as a little one that I still have scars.(No….I don’t do this anymore.)
8. Pink
I HATE the color pink. It is not because this color is associated with “girly” things though. I hate pink because when I was very young someone gave me a pink cake for what I assume was my birthday. I was really sick anyway and ended up throwing up everything I had eaten. It was still bright pink. So, since then I have never liked the color pink.
9. Cake
I am not a huge fan of birthday cake. I much prefer a cookie over a cake. My mom figured this out and I stopped getting birthday cakes and received giant cookies instead. It’s the best.Â
10. Arts and Crafts
I hate artsy things. Most likely because I don’t have a creative bone in my body. I always thought the arts and crafts time at things was torture. I still am not a huge fan of anything arts and crafts. If I end up getting roped into doing anything artsy these days I don’t get too frustrated because at least I have fuel for the next bonfire.
